Enter a previous and current value to instantly calculate growth rate (%), percentage change, difference, and multiplier. Percentage increase and decrease, plus month-over-month (MoM), year-over-year (YoY), quarter-over-quarter (QoQ), and week-over-week (WoW) growth all share the same formula, so this one calculator covers them all. Switch tabs on the same page to find the growth rate needed to hit a goal, the required increase and progress toward it, the original value behind a known result, or a plain percent difference. Works for revenue, users, traffic, or any metric, entirely in your browser.

Growth Rate = (Current − Previous) / Previous × 100Growth rate, percentage change, percent increase, and percent decrease are different names for the same calculation. Each is (Current − Previous) / Previous × 100. A positive result is usually called an increase and a negative one a decrease, but the math is identical, so there's no need for a separate percentage increase calculator and percentage decrease calculator; this growth rate calculator handles both.
Only the label changes depending on which two values you compare. Whatever numbers you put in the previous and current fields, the calculator returns the change the same way.
The MoM, YoY, QoQ, and WoW growth figures common in business reporting are the same percentage-change calculation. MoM (month over month) compares last month with this month, YoY (year over year) compares last year with this year, QoQ (quarter over quarter) compares consecutive quarters, and WoW (week over week) compares last week with this week.
For example, with last month's revenue at 10,000 and this month's at 12,500, enter 10,000 as the previous value and 12,500 as the current value to get a MoM growth of +25%. Use last-year/this-year numbers for YoY, quarterly numbers for QoQ, and weekly numbers for WoW: no need to switch between a separate MoM, YoY, QoQ, or WoW calculator.
Alongside the percentage change, the calculator shows the absolute difference and the multiplier. The multiplier tells you how many times the previous value the current value is (e.g. 1.25×), which makes the size of the change easier to grasp. If the previous value is zero, the growth rate is undefined because it would divide by zero, so pick a non-zero starting point.
Use it with any metric: revenue, traffic, subscribers, conversions: to fill in the growth figures in a report or to check progress toward a goal. Every calculation runs in your browser and the numbers you enter are never sent to a server.
Growth rate is directional (it goes from one value to another), so swapping the previous and current values changes the result. Percent difference instead computes |A − B| / ((A + B) / 2) × 100: it doesn't designate either value as the baseline, and reports the size of the gap symmetrically. Swapping A and B gives the same result.
Use the percent difference tab instead of the growth rate tab when neither value is naturally "first": comparing two campaigns' performance, or two groups' averages, for example.
The goal growth tab takes a current value and a target value and computes (Target − Current) / Current × 100: the growth rate required to reach that target. It answers a forward-looking question like "how much do we need to grow next quarter to hit the goal?"
The inputs look similar to a plain growth rate calculation, but the purpose differs. The growth rate tab measures a change that already happened; the goal growth tab computes a change that still needs to happen.
The required increase tab uses the same two inputs (current, target) as goal growth, but reports the answer as absolute amounts instead of a percentage: how much more is needed, the progress made so far (Current / Target × 100), and the remaining gap (Target − Current). Use the progress figure directly when a dashboard needs to show "how much of the goal is filled."
Where the goal growth tab answers "what growth rate do we need," this tab answers "how far have we come, and how far is left."
The reverse tab runs the calculation backward. Given a final value and the growth rate that produced it, Original Value = Final Value / (1 + Growth Rate / 100) recovers the value before the change. Use it when you know this month's revenue grew 25% to reach 12,500 but didn't record last month's figure separately.
When the growth rate is −100%, the denominator becomes zero and the calculation is undefined: the value dropped to nothing, so there is no original value to recover.
Before writing "15% growth" in a weekly report, look at the absolute change (187,500) too. Fifteen percent off a small base and off a large base mean very different things.
MoM, YoY, QoQ and WoW all use the same formula and differ only in the comparison period. For a seasonal business, YoY reflects the real trend far better than the previous month.
Percentages are not symmetric because the base changes. Adding 20% after losing 20% lands at 96, not the original value. This trips people up whenever a recovery target is involved.
Neither campaign is naturally the "baseline" here, so percent difference is used instead of growth rate. Swapping A and B gives the same result.
Used to work out, ahead of time, how much this quarter's result (8,000) needs to grow to reach next quarter's target (10,000), for sharing as a team goal.
A mid-quarter check that shows "how much of the goal is filled" directly, which suits progress reporting better than the goal growth tab's percentage.
Used when you have this month's number and a known growth rate but never recorded last month's raw figure separately, to reconstruct it.
What it is, who it's for, how it works and why you'd use it.
A Growth Rate Calculator is a unified tool covering five calculations about the change between two values: growth rate, percentage change, MoM, YoY, QoQ, and WoW growth, plus goal growth rate, required increase, reverse calculation, and percent difference. Growth rate, MoM, YoY, QoQ, WoW, and percentage increase/decrease all use the same (Current − Previous) / Previous × 100 formula; goal growth, required increase, and reverse calculation solve that same relationship for a target value or a final value instead.
It is for PMs, marketers, analysts, small business owners, and developers who measure changes in revenue, users, traffic, or any metric: especially anyone reporting monthly (MoM), yearly (YoY), quarterly (QoQ), or weekly (WoW) growth, checking progress toward a goal, or working backward from a known result.
Pick what you want to calculate from the tabs (growth rate, goal growth, required increase, reverse, percent difference), enter the values it needs, and the result appears instantly in your browser. Each tab has its own inputs and formula.
Instead of hopping between separate tools for growth rate, percentage change, goal growth, required increase, reverse calculation, and percent difference, you get an accurate number in one place with no manual math: saving time on reports and goal tracking.
